Just as with my Quick Hitters on the FAR and GSAR, my Quick Hitter series on the DFARS is meant to to simplify contracting business with the government. This time with DoD.
DFARS 226.7103 Procedure
This subpart synopsizes the awareness of the government to include various types of small businesses within its acquisition arena. Military bases provide great opportunities for small businesses to display their capability.
It would be wise to peruse FAR 19.5 and 19.8 alongside this particular portion of regulation.
Your CO will research to understand the number of local businesses which provide what is being sought by the government. Pro Tip: They ordinarily solicit via a specified proximity to the military installation. Set-asides may occur within or outside the designated proximity as dictated by the local market at the time of purchase.
This snapshot of how DoD initiates the closure and care of its bases should serve as a reminder that big business does not receive every opportunity in business. Particularly within the federal government.
This country was built on small business. DoD currently helps keep that tradition with this subpart of the DFARS.
Installation upkeep was one of the simulations given to us at the VA Acquisition Academy. They are big bucks with layers of opportunity. You can be the prime contractor or subbed out by them.
