Quick Hitter: DFARS Part 213

Just as with my Quick Hitters on the FAR and GSAR, my Quick Hitter series on the DFARS is meant to simplify contracting business with the government. This time with DoD.

DFARS 213.201 General

At the request of the Combatant Commander and with concurrence by the HCA, the MPT for all but services and construction rises to $20k for CONUS buys and $35k for OCONUS purchases (2024-O0011). Such is referred to as Rapid Contracting For Combatant Commanders. This directive was put in place on April 15, 2024 through September 30, 2028.

The caveats are fire fighting agents on ships as an exception will not be made due to its chemical makeup and covered defense communication equipment or services. Just look at the recent example of what happened with the exploding has below walkie-talkies here. Our Armed Forces will not make the same mistake because our nation’s trained COs/KOs are taught by elite personnel.   

This process can only be utilized within a declared contingency operation or to facilitate defense against or in recovery of nuclear, biological, radiological or chemical warfare against the United States of America or its wartime allied forces in joint action during the aforementioned examples.

DoD has made it extremely simple for its military to procure goods and services necessary to win the mission which protects the warfighter and the taxpayer.

The vendor’s responsibilities in terms of preparation and execution do not change unless a letter contract is designated, but their is a higher probability that the vendor will get paid sooner if answering a solicitation categorized as Rapid Contracting.
