Just as with my Quick Hitter series on the FAR, my Quick Hitter series on the GSAR is meant to simplify contracting business with the government. This time with GSA.
GSAR 539.101 Policy
Refresh yourself with GSAR 511.170-511.171. It basically says contractor IT must be compatible with existing government IT. Note waivers and, of course, exceptions.
GSA has its own CIO. They hold approval in this arena for CO buys to meet GSA’s IT standards. Again, that’s compatibility. Compatibility such as internet capability. Suppliers must submit a Declaration of Conformity, lab certification and practical demonstration.
IT procurement of IT at GSA includes software code, supply chain risk management, unmanned aircraft systems and information security.
My whole life has been immersed in IT. I first use computers in fifth grade when I should have invested in apple. My aunt managed IT services for the State of Iowa in 13 counties for 20 years taking the reins on modernizing the IT systems for the southeastern quadrant of Iowa. If I can’t learn it then she probably knows it. As a matter of fact, she is currently walking her grandson through computer programming via FaceTime during his collegial endeavors as he does his homework at night.
