Just as with my Quick Hitter series on the FAR, my Quick Hitter series on the GSAR is meant to simplify contracting business with the government. This time with GSA.
GSAR 501.105-2 Arrangement Of Regulations
If you can read the FAR then you can contract with any agency. First, you have to know how their acquisition regulations are sequenced.
It’s simple. For each part corresponding with the FAR there is a “50” in front. For example, FAR 1.104 corresponds to GSAR 501.104 and if a GSAR rule is not in the FAR then you will find a “70” in the part number. For example, GSAR Part 570.
You may find that Part numbers do not exactly line up. That’s because a FAR rule may not require GSAR execution.
The first course that I ever took at the VA Acquisition Academy was a course in how to read the FAR and its supplements. They told us that if we knew how to read the FAR then we could contract with any agency. Although my experience is in the VA’s FSS program, I am able to decipher contracting regulations from any federal agency. So can you. It’s pretty easy.
