The article discusses Compulink, an unplanned family business of an Ecuadorian immigrant which began small providing cables and ballooned into a giant supplier of technology. What was the answer to their success? Government contracting. They have their eyes on the federal arena, but are completely satisfied focusing on the states of New York and New Jersey supplying their local and state governments with their technology needs.
If you can do it, if you can get it or if you can ship it then there are strong chances that the government needs it.
The arena of contracting, whether it be local, state or federal is a breeding ground for entrepreneurial businesses. Many of those businesses succeed because the federal government is the biggest buyer in the world. Local and state governments also need many of those same things, too.
It is my belief that inside and outside every level of government that contracting can be a huge factor in terms of job creation whether you work in a government office setting or supply a good or service that a government needs. An entrepreneur can create a business with specialized skills such as in counter terrorism or simply supply something that a level of Government requires at a high demand.
If you have always desired to start your own business then researching in the arena of government contracting is well worth your time.
My style of writing Federal contracts and communicating with the vendor community when I wrote contracts for the federal government lended itself to creating my own business and guiding companies through the contracting process. My favorite part of the process is always people.
Again, I encourage you to research how your own individual skills may allow you to start your own business and close deals with every level of government.
