This series of FAR summaries is meant to take a meaningful portion of the Federal Acquisition Regulations to ensure an easy-to-understand approach to maintain that readers comprehend the process of doing business with the government and that the government exercises a fair and reasonable approach to doing business with the general public.
FAR Part 53 Forms
The government uses standard forms (SF) and optional forms (OF) within its contracting process (FAR 53.000(a)). Said forms must be current (FAR 53.102), may not be altered (FAR 53.103(a)) and must follow prescriptions in accordance with the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR 53.103(b)). Forms can be gathered in the GSA Documents Library at http://www.gsa.gov/forms.
The rest of this FAR Part lists and explains various forms.
More than likely, your Contracting Officer (CO) will use the government’s contract writing system (eCMS) to generate the appropriate form necessary to house your contract action. Remember, if you have to sign the bottom, you sign first. Then the government.
This may not seem important because you don’t see most of these forms until the finish line is near, but the GSA Documents Library is an important bullet in your gun.
This marks the final installment of my Quick Hitters series on the FAR. It’s meant to serve as a ley men’s reference guide for the curious, the vendor community as well as federal employees. It’s not meant to insult. It’s meant to simplify. I hope it helps.
I’ve been pondering setting up a Robertson KX YouTube channel in which these Quick Hitters would serve as early content because not only have these popped on my LinkedIn profile, but served as a springboard to have ongoing conversations with several Asian companies which includes a $300B Chinese giant!
