Quick Hitter: FAR Part 23

This series of FAR summaries is meant to take a meaningful portion of the Federal Acquisition Regulations to ensure an easy-to-understand approach to maintain that readers comprehend the process of doing business with the government and that the government exercises a fair and reasonable approach to doing business with the general public.

FAR 23.302 Policy

OSHA has plans about dealing with any hazardous materials, symptoms of exposure and emergency actions and how to use specified hazards safely. The CO is made aware of such materials and responsible for appropriate notification.

It’s up to the offeror to specify before award and the CO to notify personnel after award.

The VA FSS medical schedules routinely inquire about hazardous materials because those contracts are used in VA hospitals. That’s my experience with hazardous materials. I never got a call from the CO at the ordering facility level as the base contract manager. I suppose that’s a good thing.
