The above article dishes on the next big thing in federal contracting. AI is writing proposals to answer solicitations put out by the government.
I am nowhere near a big name in circles of top guns. I am just a consultant trying to use my experience to make an honest living.
This relatively new technology might be fun to use to find out an all-time starting lineup for your favorite sports franchise or to find out what a dead President would say about a current event. However, to rely on such to answer a solicitation may be a bit premature.
There are hundreds of clauses in the FAR and each agency has a FAR supplement. Does your robot understand them? Furthermore, how does your technology answer the solicitation?
This robot may provide you with a very rough draft. It’s not going to make your job easier, though. Not right now, anyway. You still need to understand the perimeters of what the government wants. You still need to understand how your company can provide that. You still need to conduct market research and propose a fair and reasonable price.
At this point in time, why would you want a rough draft created by a robot? AI business writing will steer vendor preparation just like AI portals steer proposal intake for government agencies like GSA. That quantum leap isn’t here yet.
If you are intimidated by the federal contracting process, don’t buy a robot. Hire a consultant. If a robot intrigues you then wait until the bugs are worked out.
