They won’t give you as much information as a consultant, but it was one of my favorite parts of the job when time allowed.
Things To Know
They Are A Trusted Business Partner
That being said, they are not a dealer talking to a salesman. Don’t give them your pitch. They can’t do anything with it. That’s because they make their decision based solely upon your proposal which is to answer the solicitation.
However, they can clarify a clause. They can reinforce the project’s timeline. They can suggest you can acquire a consultant or contact the APTAC. They can make contact as to progress and pitfalls. You can contact them regarding potential, pending or upcoming modifications. They can and may issue a stop order on a pending project. Don’t make negotiations the first time you hear their voice. A digital handshake by way of an introductory email is always a good idea. They may send you one, too. But remember to be prudent. They have an avalanche of projects to tend to. So, email may be best but don’t be shy.
Be Friendly
Don’t bite the hand that can feed you. It’s all right to debate differences. Don’t grind their gears intentionnally, though. It can’t cost you in terms of their decision to award. That being said, they already have enough knots in their stomach. Being another may cost you communication. Don’t do that to yourself. A good CO is free help when you can get it, legally.
Things They Can’t Do
They can’t participate in collusion. They can’t have a conflict of interest. They can’t take bribes. You can’t steal them! However, the government can hire yours! Doesn’t seem fair. Does it? Read FAR Part 3 which summarizes improper business practices and conflicts of interests
It can be like speed dating, but if you get along well then they can be a keeper or at least you could be the awardee.
